A brief history
In the Fall of 2004, the Lord led Lou Engle and a large group of young people to fast and pray in Washington, DC with a focus on the upcoming elections and for righteousness and justice to be established in America’s government. The strategic time of prayer mobilized before the elections soon became an ongoing chorus of prayer and worship exalting the name of Jesus in the nation's capitol. The Justice House of Prayer was born. Since that time people of all ages have come to join in the worship, prayer and intercession that is taking place in this "cultural gate" of the nation. It is in the context of cultivating intimacy with Christ and drawing near the heart of God that the unending cry for justice and mercy continues in JHOP DC.
My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations
The Justice House of prayer DC is an evangelical missions organization that is committed to praying for the release of the fullness of God's power and purpose from the cultural gate of the nation's capitol. Our hope is in Jesus Christ, the one whom scripture declares is the “desire of all nations” (Hag 2:7). He is worthy of our extravagant love and devotion. Capitol Hill is the perfect place to lift up praise and adoration to him.
We have faith for the reformation of society through revival and spiritual awakening as this nation has already experienced in the past. In the meantime, we contend in fasting and prayer against false ideologies that are destructive to our nation and families.
Get involved
Our unassuming facilities are strategically located only a couple blocks away from the Supreme Court and the Capitol Building. There JHOP DC facilitates training and corporate prayer and fasting through young adult apprenticeships and a community of local intercessors. While other interns in DC are learning the inner workings of government, our interns are learning how governing through prayer works. The prayer room is open to the public during regular scheduled hours.
In addition, JHOP DC is the birthplace and headquarters for Bound4LIFE, a wide-spread grass roots prayer movement focused on the ending of abortion. Regularly scheduled prayer takes place both in the prayer room and in front of the Supreme Court.
E.M. Bounds, the great nineteenth-century preacher and intercessor wrote, “A school to teach preachers how to pray, as God counts praying, would be more beneficial to true piety, true worship, and true preaching than all theological schools.” We believe this statement is true and are committed to equipping a new generation of the church to rediscover the ancient paths of fasting and prayer to see the Gospel of Christ go forth in power.
